So you wanna be a Michelin-star? Of course you can follow the stars of the universe, or use Tripadvisor to find the best restaurants in town. But even better is to ask locals about their recommendations. Not just locals, but especially chefs.
Executive chef Teo Ivanisevic recommended me to go to Konoba Batelina in Banjole, close to the city of Pula. Normally it’s not difficult to have dinner in a restaurant, you just go there or make a reservation. In this case, the restaurant is always fully booked and also closed in the touristic month August.
When you enter the terrace of this restaurant, you would not say this is one of the best restaurants of Croatia. It is a public secret that not only Ivanisevic, but a lot of good Croatian chefs love to go out for dinner in this restaurant.
Konoba Batelina is a fish restaurant, and not just a fish restaurant: they catch the fish themselves every day and what they catch is what you can choose from. The friendly waiter explains you the daily menu and brings you some nice bread that tastes home made, which in this case was a very good thing.
The starters are a combination of small preparations of fish. We had an octopus salad, sardines in white wine sauce and pieces of a (small) shark. Everything was delicious, and even if you’re not used to eat fish the taste of most dishes was so soft you will not experience any trouble.
During the starter the waiter asked us if we know what we wanted to eat after the starter. We were still eating and enjoying so for us the question came a bit too early, but with seeing the plate of fresh catched fishes got in the mood even more.
You can pick the fish that you want and ask them to prepare it in any way you want, with or without pasta and/or side dish.
I can really recommend you to go to this restaurant, but please mind that you really need a reservation and the restaurant is closed in August. Enjoy and leave your review in the comments!
Hvala Teo!
